Aluminum Sheet vs Aluminum Plate

The difference between a metal sheet and metal plate can be defined by thickness.

If the thickness of the metal is ¼” (6mm) or more, then it is considered a plate. Plate thickness is typically measured in inches. If the thickness is less than ¼” (6mm), it is considered sheet.Plate and sheets has to do with the distinct applications for which they are used.

Uses of aluminum sheets

Aluminum sheet is the most common form of aluminum.

It is used in all major markets of the aluminum industry. For example, aluminum sheets are used in the packaging industry to make packages and cans. It is also valuable for the transportation industry in the manufacture of tractor trailers and automotive body panels.

Aluminum Sheet is also used in cookware and appliances, as well as building/building products such as garages, awnings, roofs, gutters and siding.

For example, through color anodization, aluminum sheets can be turned into blue, red, gold or black surfaces. It can also be etched for a matte look or polished for a bright, sparkling look.

Uses of aluminum plate

Aluminum plate are most commonly used in heavy-duty applications, particularly in transportation product manufacturing, aerospace, automobiles, construction machinery, pressure vessels and military industries.

Because certain aluminum alloys have the potential to become more durable in extremely cold temperatures, aluminum plates can be used as outer shells for spacecraft fuel tanks and jets, storage tanks, structural parts of ships and rail vehicles, and military vehicle armor.
